Differentiation in the social studies classroom-Grades 4-12

Differentiation is the buzz word these days, but putting this buzz word into practice is not always easy. One way that I have found that seems to suit a variety of intelligences and levels of Blooms is the Tic-Tac-Toe board method. Students have to demonstrate mastery of the material through projects they choose off a tic-tac-toe board of activities. As the teacher, you can stack the board with easy and challenging options and can control what students do. A sample of part of a Hinduism and Buddhism project can be found here. There are also rubrics attached. If you wish for a copy in word, message me and I will e-mail you a copy.
** A little disclaimer*** These can be a little tricky to keep up with on the grading side depending on your student load, but the results are well worth it. My students really enjoyed and got a lot out of both projects.
